Chemistry Courses

Palmer offers a variety of Chemistry courses, starting from grade 8

Science 8-10

In Science 8, 9 and 10, these courses have broad topics, its curriculum including biology, chemistry and physics. So even if chemistry is just a small portion of this course, students will gain a basic understanding of chemistry for the foundations of future more advanced courses.​

This is the textbook used for science 10

Chemistry 12

Students in this course will develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, where they are required to preform in depth analysis on lab reports and such. The course's pre-requisite is chemistry 11, but students are recommended to have a B or higher in that course.​

Chemistry 11

Chemistry 11's pre-requisite is science 10 and math 10, and is recommended for students to have at-least a C+ or higher before initiating this course. Students will learn contents revolving around matters and atoms, and will need a scientific calculator for mathematical related problems that may appear.

This is the textbook used for science 11

Chemistry 12 AP

Students are required to have taken or taking Chemistry 12 concurrently with this course to register. The course can fulfill requirement for the first year of university and can obtain credits if they score 4 or higher in Advanced Placement College Board of Chemistry Examination at institutes like UBC and SFU.

Summary

Students will learn chemistry throughout middle school to high school, but they can specialize in learning chemistry starting at grade 11. Student studying chemistry will gain critical thinking skills along with the knowledge gained in course.
