First People Aspects with examples:

- The course will focus on First People's oral and written literature, which may include stories, poetry, songs and visual texts that were pass down generation to generations by the First Peoples, to our hands.

By reading authentic indigenous literature written by the First People, students are expected to absorb powerful, purposeful and meaningful compositions, that they could hopefully use in their future works.

For some groups, like the Blackfoot, the oral tradition begins before a child is born, with songs and stories being passed down from the mother to the unborn child.

Teaching Style

Traditional style:

- Ms. Luccock likes to have a traditional teaching style, partially because it's her first year teaching English First People 12 so it's more comfortable to use her usual teaching style. She uses quiz and test to keep track of student's progress while using activities to engage them. She also likes breaking students into research group to encourage teamwork.

Her students are also interesting in learning English First People 12 themselves, as they are curious about learning residential schools and the identity of First Nations. Ms. Luccock tries to make students more conscious about their relationship to Canada, and the mistake government made when taking over the First Nation's land.
