Chemists

Famous chemists that contributed towards chemistry that Palmer students will learn about

Alfred Nobel

Alfred Nobel was a chemist and inventor, most famously known for  the creation of dynamite, a safe and efficient alternative to the dangerous explosives at his time, his idea revolutionized the mining industry and passed his legacy on by creating the Nobel prize for other chemists.

Marie Curie

Marie Curie was the first woman in history to win the Nobel prize, her discovery of radioactivity has introduced humanity to a whole new field of science, her inventions inspired technological breakthrough in medicine and gave us a better understanding of the world.

Antione Lavoisier

Antione Lavoisier was the first chemist to discover oxygen and hydrogen, drawing connections between combustion and cellular respiration (the chemical process we use in our cell), and discovering the law of conservation of mass.

John Dalton

John Dalton revolutionized chemistry by developing the modern atomic theory, proposing that all matters are made of atoms. He also made contributions in other fields like the study of colour blindness, which is named after himself: Daltonism.

Summary

There has been countless chemists over the history of humanity, starting from alchemy. And all of these chemists mentioned above has made significant contribution towards chemistry, whether it's atomic theory or the discovery of radioactivity.
